| Over two hundred years elapsed, after witnessing the birth of Haiti You have, for the first time, stood still, powerless, numbed and bewildered
On your behalf, Gonaives, I dare questioning the will of God Is it truly the will of God? Would you not be correct asking why you? Or rightfully, why Haiti?
Jeanne may vilely carried away your sons and daughters But no way could it carry away your eager to survive
Knowing you, only the forces of nature could stand your way You have proudly witnessed the birth of our beloved Haiti Are you now claiming to be the first to witness its passing?
What went wrong Gonaives? Some of us are selfishly trying to use you as scapegoat As if you have brought this chaos upon yourself
Are you to be blamed? Haven’t you tried several times to liberate us? Oh! Gonaives
As you are trying to regain life Those of us who barely possess the thick blood of our ancestors Are proudly asking that you hold on As help is on the way Yes, help is coming your way
Over two centuries ago, you gave us the most precious gift Life, Liberty and Hope The least you could ask of us is to reciprocally return the favor
Today, as proud sons and daughters of Haiti We shall proudly come together And initiate a movement behind helping you, Gonaives And to not come to your aid is simply not Haitian
