| After thirty years of political turbulence, Haiti has finally reached a point of optimism and hope is at its highest. However, just months after relative calm and security as its peak, Haiti’s stability and well being is once again being threatened. As Haitians have and always believe that there exists an invisible hand opposing to its success, we can now see that invisible hand being manifested through the senators of Haiti. Calling for a vote of no-confidence of Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis must be interpreted as threatening the security and stability of Haiti and the government of Haiti must be vigilant as this could lead to another coup d’état.
At this point in Haitian politics, the senators’ action must be taken seriously. I would urge President Préval to launch an investigation, looking to see whether or not some senators have taken bribes for acting so irresponsibly. The senators’ action is dubious at a time where the government is striving to bring a sense of normalcy to a traumatized country.
Those who are elected to help rebuilding the country are ironically working to further destroy it. At what point would these so-called leaders assume their responsibilities toward the country? Impunity has gone without punishment for too long in Haiti. This time around, thanks God, we have a government prosecutor, Claudy Gassant, who believes in the rule of law; one who sees a brighter future for Haiti by prosecuting the evil doers and, once again, through the senators of Haiti, the invisible hand, the enemies of my land, are arranging to reverse the will of the Haitian people.
It is hard to believe that my senators would be seen as the enemies of my land. Based on their action this past week, I have no choice but to see them as enemies of Haiti; and as senators, being so irresponsible toward the nation is nothing less than an act of treason. President Préval should therefore look deeply into a possible act of treason by these senators for their action this past week is a threat to the nation.
As the Alexis –Préval government is fearlessly going after anyone who is suspecting of wrong doing, there is a sector of the population that feels threatened and so this sector is reaching out to their friends in the Haitian parliament. Whether you are a businessman, a shoe maker, a restavek (forced home servant) or prominent family members, one thing that is certain these days in Haiti is that nobody is above the law and the law will be equally applied to every Haitian. If that makes some people nervous, so be it. This government is willing and determined to put away people who deserve to be put away. Bravo Haiti.
